History Club Trips

What is History Club?

It’s simple, we’re a group of people of all ages that love and respect history of all kinds. We take various historical, educational and fun trips to explore and learn all that we can about the past. The TRT team has created a series of educational and fun trips throughout Illinois and neighboring states.

  • Trips can range from single to multiple days.
  • Trips are offered at least once, sometimes, twice a month.
  • No fees, no dues, just sign up for a trip and you’re a lifelong member.
  • These trips are great for historical site volunteers, reenactors, families and anyone interested in exploring the history and learning.

History Club Trips are available for individual sign up and for group sales.

How Do I Join History Club?

  1. Check out the TRT Calendar Page for current scheduled trips!
  2. Then click on the trip of your choice and follow the sign-up prompts
  3. Anyone over 18 can sign up for trips, under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

With the passage of time we can see the evolution of society through history, no matter if the history is positive or negative, and by respecting history and learning from our past is how we evolve forward as a society.

Basic Trip Information

  • Trips are led by professional and knowledgeable tour guides and managers.
  • Sometimes a guest interpreter with a particular knowledge also accompanies trips.
  • Deals and group rates are taken advantage of to keep expenses as low as possible.
  • TRT builds trips that are inclusive of most if not all main expenses.
  • Trips have a minimum of 40 people to operate, and a maximum of 50 per coach.
  • Sometimes we have history trivia contests and play games on board the coach for prizes, which can range from fun and cheesy prizes, even cash, and useful gift cards.

Some trips are overnight and require a hotel stay.

  • TRT always uses hotels backed up by good reviews and affordability.
  • TRT tries to use Drury Inn Hotels because of affordable and clean rooms, complimentary hot and cold breakfast and complimentary “Kick Back” time offering tacos, sliders, pastas, salads, soups, nachos, baked potatoes, for example, more than enough for an included dinner meal!

  • Usually self pay, but sometimes meals can be included.
  • Meals can sometimes be fast-food, sit down, or box meal to go and eat on the coach.

Donations and Tipping

TRT typically includes historical site donations.

  • TRT includes the tip for the coach driver and group meals.
  • Tipping of your tour manager/guide is optional.
  • Please tip servers for individual sit down meals.

Health and Safety

  • Health and safety is a priority when we travel. TRT asks that if you are not feeling well or not physically capable of the rigors of a travel trip that you decline to travel. Please join us when you can.
  • Coach companies are required to appropriately clean and sanitize the seats and the coach prior to each trip. On board cleaning and sanitizing products are on board for any needed maintenance.

The Rewards

Exploring history and mystery enriches us all and brings out the adventurer in all of us!

  • The comradery and friendships that are developed between historical minded travelers.
  • Connecting to the past, exploring histories can be fun and mysterious.
  • Learn something new about your interests or learn something new entirely.
  • And then there’s the undeniable satisfaction we can’t deny when we get to pass on and teach someone else what was learned on the latest trip, no matter if they want to hear about it or not! (Site interpreters and volunteers can relate!)

General Grants Home

We’ve escorted individuals, families, politicians, generals, admirals, rock stars, all kinds of groups, and nearly 60,000 school kids since 2005!
