The Mormons and Nauvoo

                                   Date: June 3rd – Cost: $99

Join this day trip to Carthage and Nauvoo, Illinois and discover the early Mormon history. First visit the old Carthage Jail where a mob of 150 stormed the jail and murdered Joseph and Hyrum Smith. As time allows visit the Kibbe Museum just across the street and see a variety of historical exhibits including the collection from the former Funeral Customs Museum once in Springfield. There will be a lunch stop at your choice of Subway or Hardees. Then it’s on to Nauvoo where we’ll first stop at the visitor center. There’s a short film to watch on the history of the village, we’ll get our bearings and then we’ll head into the village. Enjoy a guided tour of the Joseph Smith homestead and mansion house.  Visit the gravesite of Joseph and Emma Smith. Visit the blacksmith and wainwright shops and see demonstrations and talk with interpreters. Visit the John Browning gunsmith shop and the home of Brigham Young. The day will wind down with a visit to the Mormon Temple sitting high on the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River. The view is spectacular! Enjoy a walkaround of the temple to see the incedible architecture and the famous sunstones that surround the temple. Then it’s back to Springfield arriving around dinner time.
